Bartın Cement takes the conservation of natural resources as one of the most important parts of a sustainable business strategy, and as an energy-intensive facility, it spends a great deal to reduce the CO2 footprint from past to present.

Although Greenhouse Gas Emissions are verified by independent organizations every year, studies continue at full speed with TS EN ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems without sacrificing environmental sustainability.

Bartın Cement has established Management Policy, which includes environmental policy within the scope of Integrated Management System and announced it to all employees and the public. Bartın Cement, has the Environmental Management System certificate in TS-EN-ISO 14001 in Bartın and Ereğli Branches.

It is our environmental policy to determine the environmental dimensions and to ensure the continuity of the risk analysis, to protect the environment and prevent environmental pollution, and to take and apply measures for the collection and disposal of environmental waste.

This document, which is approved by the top management, is transferred to all employees within the organization and it is worked in accordance with the rules here.

If the change in the environmental policy is foreseen, it is evaluated immediately, if not, at least once a year at the Management Review meetings.

  • The flue gas emissions connected to the continuous measurement device in the main furnace of our plant can be monitored simultaneously 24/7 by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. Thanks to the bag filters used in the rotary kiln and other units, emission emissions are also below the European Union dust emission limit value.
  • The heat exhausted from the chimney is used in coal and cement pre-crushers, and a minimum of hot gas is released into the atmosphere. With the Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) Waste Heat Generated Energy investment, electrical energy is produced from waste heat and approximately 30% of the electricity of our plant is provided. With some of the heat, hot water is obtained with the help of the recuperator system. The need for heating and hot water in factories, social facilities and lodgings are met here. Our plant is Turkey's most low-calorie cooking with pre-calcination rotary kiln clinker production is made.
  • Within the scope of Monitoring and Reporting of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, our facility became a pilot facility in 2014 and Greenhouse Gas Emissions are verified every year by Independent Auditors.
  • T. C. In the studies carried out within the scope of the Integrated Environmental Permit project of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, it has been determined by the Ministry that it is one of the “Applying the Best Available Techniques” in our country.
  • Our plant, which gives importance to the use of Alternative Raw Materials instead of meeting all its raw material needs from nature, pays great attention to both less consumption of natural resources and protection of the environment.
  • Fossil fuel use is reduced with the recovery of Additional Fuel and Alternative Fuels, but wastes are recycled to the economy.
  • Rehabilitation projects and rehabilitation plans are being carried out for the raw material quarries (mining areas) that have expired, and we are working on the protection and maintenance of natural life.
  • With all these studies, CO2 footprint and resource consumption are reduced.
  • Together with our target of planting at least 1 tree per employee each year, our carbon footprint of at least 105 tons per tree is reduced.
  • Under the leadership of the ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT UNIT created within our plant, all technical and administrative studies are carried out with great care.

Our Goals and Targets in Environmental Management

Environmental factors have been evaluated in relation to Bartın Cement activities and environmental impact assessments have been made. Recognizing environmental impacts and minimizing environmental pollution by supporting employees with annual trainings constitutes the basis of environmental activities.

Implementation targets are included within the annual Environmental Management Program.

In the evaluation of physical measurement results made by external neutral organizations, it is aimed to work below the limit values in the relevant regulations.

Among our other goals and objectives that we have identified within the scope of our responsibility towards the environment;

  • To comply with the applicable legal regulations, national and international standards and other conditions that we have established in accordance with these legal regulations within the scope of our management systems and activities.
  • To determine environmental dimensions and to prevent environmental pollution through continuous improvement activities by making risk analyzes.
  • To continuously improve energy saving and efficiency, to reduce the resource consumption, support the purchase of product service and design we take measures by determining important energy dimensions.
  • To encourage people to take initiative with the continuity of education on environment, ready to question and take responsibility and to be focused on success
  • To monitor and apply the validated technologies.
  • To ensure that all employees, visitors, subcontractors and suppliers and other third parties comply and contribute to our management systems
  • To make analysis of wastewater in accordance with the regulations and to ensure 100% utilization in the process.
  • To increase the wastewater quality and to reduce water consumption by 5%
  • Separating all wastes at their source, determining their quantities and delivering all of them to disposal or recycling facilities
  • To minimize the emission of dust and emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) to the minimum by afforestation works at the plant site
  • To determine the possible positive and negative effects of the projects planned to be carried out in the environment, to prevent or minimize the negative effects to the environment, to determine the measures to be taken, to determine and to evaluate the selected place and technology alternatives.
